Globally, over 260,000 areas are designated as Protected Areas. In the era of global climate crisis, these areas are serving an increasingly significant role in conserving biodiversity, providing ecosystem services and mitigating climate changes.

In response to these global changes, GCIDA was established in Jeju Island, in the Republic of Korea, in April 2024 as a UNESCO Category 2 Centre, with the vision of building "A global hub for research and training to strengthen the management capacity of IDAs/ MIDAs."
Guided by this vision, GCIDA is implementing three key strategies:

First, by delivering Distinctive Research & Consulting Outcomes, the Centre aims to provide demand-driven consulting, and to establish and operate a knowledge-sharing hub for Multi-Internationally Designated Areas(MIDAs).

Second, through Enhancing Efficient and Systematic Training Services and Exchange, GCIDA seeks to provide tailored training programs and to reinforce structured collaboration channels with domestic and international partners.

Third, during its Early Stages, GCIDA is focusing on establishing a strong foundation for sustainable growth, which includes the development of mid- to long-term strategies, recruitment of staff, facility upgrades, and enhancing institutional visibility through its Opening Ceremony and related outreach activities.

GCIDA remains committed to keeping the environment both beautiful and sustainable. We kindly ask for your interest and support. Thank you.
