Appointment of GCIDA’s 1st Director-General
On February 5, 2024, Mr. Yulbeom Lee was officially appointed as the first Director-General of the Global Research and Training Centre for Internationally Designated Areas (GCIDA).
Director-General Lee brings extensive experience from his leadership roles at the Ministry of Environment, including Director of Watershed Management, Director of Environmental Industry and Economy, and Regional Director of Wonju Regional Environmental Office. He also played a key role in major initiatives such as the first-ever boundary adjustment of Korea’s national parks and the enactment of the Chemical Registration and Evaluation Act.
In his inauguration speech, Mr. Lee shared his vision to:
“build a harmonized management framework that reflects the unique characteristics of each type of internationally designated area, while establishing a comprehensive on- and offline training system for site managers and the public — based on Jeju’s distinctive experience managing all four types of IDAs.”
We look forward to GCIDA’s exciting journey under his leadership!
