2024 Workshop for Field Practitioners (Guides) of Multi-Internationally Designated Areas (MIDAs)
*2024 Workshop for Field Practitioners (Guides) of Multi-Internationally Designated Areas (MIDAs)
From December 18 to 20, 2024, the Global Research and Training Centre for Internationally Designated Areas (GCIDA) hosted the 2024 MIDAs Field Practitioners Workshop at its headquarters in Jeju.
This three-day program brought together local guides and interpreters from across Korea who work in Multi-Internationally Designated Areas (MIDAs)—sites that hold two or more international designations such as World Heritage, Biosphere Reserve, Global Geopark, or Ramsar Wetland.
Participants engaged in sessions on GCIDA’s mission, the significance of MIDAs, and the evolving roles of site interpreters in promoting public awareness and integrated management.
On Day 2, a field visit to Biyangdo Island, a representative MIDA site, provided firsthand experience in natural heritage interpretation and on-site conservation efforts.
The opening and closing days of the workshop were held at the Jeju Sun Hotel, while the field program took participants directly into one of Jeju’s key protected landscapes, including Dongbaekdongsan Wetland.
Through this program, GCIDA aimed to enhance understanding of MIDAs, encourage peer learning, and strengthen the capacity of field practitioners who serve as the vital link between people and protected areas.
We hope this experience inspired fresh ideas and a renewed sense of purpose for all our dedicated guides!
